| People’s Actions against Poverty, 17 Sep – 17 Oct, 2006 |

| Partners of Wada Na Todo Abhiyan across states organized social action, popular education and media oriented events in the period of the Month of Mobilization. This proved to be extremely effective in engaging and reaching out to a large number of organizations and individuals across the country – and also showcasing key policy demands and mobilization efforts of the campaign across the other countries/ regions of networks such as GCAP and the Millennium Campaign. |

| The exact number that stood up globally during the 24-hour record-making attempt is 23,542,614. India leads with 9,731,983. Other top rankers are Nepal with 3.1 million, the Philippines 2.4 million, Pakistan 2.2 million. The "Stand Up" event aimed at raising mass awareness about the promise by 189 nations to eradicate hunger, poverty and diseases such as HIV/AIDS by 2015. This promise is reflected in a set of eight goals, called the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The Stand Up in Madhya Pradesh was a result of the joint effort of the state government and leading civil society organizations such as CECOEDECON, ASHA, MADHYAVAN and Wada Na Todo Abhiyan. |

| A brief dialogue on the UN Millennium Development Goals was organized by Centre for Community Economics and Development Consultants Society (CECOEDECON), Jaipur in partnership with Pratham-Rajasthan, Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur and Rajasthan Voluntary Health Association, Jaipur with support of the UN Millennium Campaign. | Madhya Pradesh: Stand Up & Long March Against Poverty, 16 Oct 2006 |

Wada na todo Abhiyan partners partnered with Government of Madhya Pradesh to organize state wide Stand Up and major events in the state's administrative capital Bhopal and commercial capital Indore (especially targeting youth and children). The State Government gave the call to Stand Up across 43 districts of the state at 11:00 AM on October 16. A Long March Against Poverty, culminating in Stand Up events on 16th October at Rambagh Churaha in Jawa Block in Rewa District of Madhya Pradesh was also organized. | Chattisgarh: Kavi Sammelan & Symposium, 15-16 Oct, 2006 |

| A creative program to highlight the promises made by the government through the MDGs, National Development Goals and National Common Minimum Program was organized by the Chattisgarh partners of "Wada Na Todo Abhiyan" on 15 and 16 October 2006. | Uttar Pradesh: Stand Up Events, 15-16 Oct 2006 |

| The “Wada Nibhao” coalition in Uttar Pradesh organized Stand Up events through 226 partner organizations across the state on 15-16 October 2006. Signature campaigns, slogan competitions against poverty in schools, cinema halls and market places across Lucknow were organized. A delegation of 20 women from the state also participated in the Wada Na Todo ‘Women’s Summit Against Poverty’ being held in Delhi on 17 October 2006. Key Partners: UPVAN |

| Orissa: Stand Up & Seminar, 16-17 Oct, 2006 |

| Katha Rakhiba Sarakar" (Government! Lets Keep the Promise) is a State level collective campaign to create an enabling environment for the effective implementation of the commitments towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in Orissa. A Peoples Stand Up was organized at BJB College Ground, Bhubaneswar on 16th October 2006 during 10.30 to 11.30 AM. A half day seminar on "Poverty Issues in Orissa" was also held on 17th October 2006 at 2.30 PM to observe the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty at Red Cross Bhavan, Bhubaneswar, Orissa. | Maharashtra: Launching WNTA in Mumbai, 17 Oct, 2006 |

| On 17th October 2006, International Anti-Poverty Day, a launch meeting of Wada Na Todo Abhiyan was held in Mumbai. The meeting aimed to bring together sensitive citizens and representatives of various types of civil society organizations to share and discuss about the status of promises made by the Governments that are impacting lives of each citizen, establish linkages with our struggles for peaceful society and initiate strategic actions to demand with our Governments to accomplish the promises to end poverty and achieve Millennium Development Goals. | Andhra Pradesh: Stand Up & NREGA Social Audit, November 2006 |
|
WNTA partners in Andhra organized ‘Stand Up’ initiatives across 15 districts of the state on 15-16th October 2006. Further, towards raising awareness and mobilize public action key citizen groups, non-govt organizations and activists have come together to take up specific NREGA campaign activities and Social Audit in one block. Over three hundred volunteers will be participating in the Social Audit at Nyakal and being held from 14 th to 18th Nov 2006.
The emerging Wada Na Todo Abhiyan in AP sees this as an opportunity for mobilizing the people on the key demands of livelihoods, health and education as addressed in the MDG and the National five-year plans along with strengthening synergy among various activists involved in NREGA. | Bihar: Stand Up & Rozgar Adhikar Yatra, November 2006 |

| Wada Na Todo Abhiyan – Bihar collaborated with Patna University to organize the Stand Up on 15-16th October 2006. The Bihar network is also organizing a state level awareness campaign on the Bihar Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in November 2006. A Journey across all 38 districts of Bihar is planned to disseminate information about the scheme BREGS, to mobilize local agencies and to chalk out district for specific follow up action plan. The Yatra will involve the mass mobilization of Dalits and marginalized communities, marginal farmers, PRI representatives and civil society organizations across the state and culminate in a public hearing at Patna, the state capital. | Wada Na Todo Abhiyan – Jharkhand has focused on the issues of livelihood and governance accountability in the state.
