Women’s Summit Against Poverty, 17 Oct 2006
The Wada Na Todo "Women's Summit against Poverty" held at the Indian Social Institute on Oct 17, 2006 was attended by more than 100 women from across 10 states, where the Abhiyan is active.
Ending Violence against Women, Preventing Female Foeticide and Promoting Women's Ownership of Property/ Assets were identified the 3 central themes for the Abhiyan. Strategic engagement to enhance co-ordination with, monitor and ensure the formation of Women's Policies, Women's Commissions, Women's Corporations and Women's Budgets was also identified as a priority for the Abhiyan across the states and at the national level. Key events and processes in 2006-07 to be organized by the WNTA Women's Taskforce were also identified.


Formation of the WNTA Women's Taskforce
The Women's Taskforce has been formed to ensure the leadership of women and integration of their priorities across the processes and structures of the Abhiyan. The Taskforce currently consists of 10 representatives, namely Anupama Leumani (Jharkhand), Chandana (W. Bengal), Gitanjali Jena (Orissa), Rajni (Delhi), Kausalya Salve (Maharashtra), Manju (Bihar), Jhanvi (Uttaranchal), Payal (Uttar Pradesh), PremDevi (Rajasthan) and Shakuntala (Himachal).


50% Representation of Women in the National Steering Group
In support of the agenda of the "Women's Summit Against Poverty", the Campaign Steering Group has expanded itself to include 3 more women members and thus ensure 50% representation of women in this body. The women partners' as part of their own deliberations too proposed the need to ensure the equal representation of women in the state and other decision making bodies of the Abhiyan.
