National Tribunal on NREGA, 10 Nov 2006
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) is one of the key promises that the Govt. has made to reduce poverty and promote social equality.
A “National Tribunal on NREGA” was organized as part of the India Social Forum 2006 in an attempt to capture the grassroots experiences of the implementation of this promise, and develop clear recommendations for the government emerging from the experiences of the intended beneficiaries of the resultant schemes being implemented at the state level. The Tribunal was also the point of convergence for local level Rozgar Adhikar Yatras and social audits that were being organized across 6 states of India - namely Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh - by partners of PACS (Poorest Areas Civil Society Program) and Wada Na Todo Abhiyan.
